Humanity's back is against the wall. Locked in a war of annihilation with an opponent able to strike anywhere, the Constellation Navy have lost sixty percent of their carriers and hundreds of star fighters in a few short years.

The newly commissioned CNS Arcadia is to join the battle for the Bryson system, but before they've even made rendezvous with the fleet, they'll be thrown onto the front lines.

The captain has a secret mission, the leader of the attack squadron has deep political connections, and their arcom ace doesn't exactly have a reputation for following orders.

And then there's Tarek.

He should be just a logistics pilot, but humans are evolving. What began as an uncanny ability to predict enemy fire might just become the power needed to bring the war to a speedy conclusion.

But at what cost?

Threshold of Victory eBook Stephen J Orion

Just as a note to the author I said "good" for the author's writing, but when I've read over the years Dune, Stand on Zanzibar, etc...well. This is a solid work. For me, it's all about "balance." The "down times" between the various combat scenes is more realistic in terms of what actually happens in the military and gave the story continuity without pushing either while the character development was very good. It's fine if an author tries to do a "balls to the wall" on every page of a story. When it's done well, it can be an incredibly entertaining story, but if it's done poorly the one dimensional aspect leaves you gritting your teeth. This work reminds me a little bit of Gardener Fox's Escape Across The Cosmos (superman concept) with some Heinlein and Asimov thrown in. I don't know what the author intended but what is especially pleasing is that this is a standalone book. I understand that authors want to entice you to read further books in their series, but there are good ways to do that and not to be crass about it. And many authors are in the latter group. If I'm satisfied with the work I'm more willing to get the next book but I won't do that if I'm overly irritated by the ending in the first because I'm assuming the author has established that as a track record and will do it again. I'm not suggesting a comparison between the two authors in any way (glad I got that out of the way) but if you like Ringo, I think you might like Orion.

Threshold of Victory eBook Stephen J Orion Reviews

Overall this was a good read. The Author could have gone into detail in few of the scenes of the book , but overall a good read.
Good characters good story fun read. I rarely review books unless I really like them. But hey what do I know try the free intro for yourself
ToV grabbed me from the beginning and kept me wanting more all the time guessing what might happen next. It's a fantastic book with fantastic characters. Thanks for writing it and sharing.
Great nearly non stop action and story line. Would recommend this book to everyone interested in space warfare. Good interaction between characters.
Faced paced action but has it's "wry" moments that evokes a chuckle or laugh.

If you haven't read the you are very lucky You have this to look forward to!!

Only downside? No sequel ( (
Overall the story was rather intriguing. Unfortunately the writer needs a competent editor. There are tons of grammatical issues throughout the book. Several instances of incorrect words which are similar sounding but yet the incorrect word was used, eg "then" where "than" should have been used. Far farrrr too many instances of ", and" which after a while I was able to (mostly) ignore. If not for the draw of the story I would have stopped reading quite early.

The writer must have a special affinity for the Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis franchise. Plenty of details that are directly from episodes of the show. I hope it was intentional and not a subconscious theft of story lines to make his book better...
This is an exceedingly good story coming at space warfare from a different angle to hook you and draw you in. The character building was well done with persons evolving in a believable way. I have added this author to my must read list and will search out any other works. Very nice indeed.
Now, why only 4 stars? This book could have done with some more editing. Even a run through with a grammar and spell checker would have added a bit of needed polish to the final work. Not enough to get you upset but when you have a book that is this good it deserves that extra little effort. Just saying.
