While this is not a bad book, it is not a good book either. Like most of the aspects of this book, everything is balanced, which leaves only a bland sandwich for readers to sink their teeth into. Many of the characters (indeed, all of the evil ones) are horribly one-dimensional, ignoring the opportunity to breath some extra life into this novel. The plot is predictable, and only the actions and lines of Essie’s gay vampire BFF Dwayne created an aura of inspired creativity. Essie is our female lead character, a were agent sent back to her home town to investigate the disappearance of young females.
Which is a shame, because author Robyn Peterman can certainly string sentences together, and the introduction of the WTF (Werewolf Treaty Federation) and Essie’s chosen profession hinted at fun to come. Unfortunately, the paranormal romance genre is overloaded, and nowadays snarky/sassy heroines are a dime a dozen. Without a whole lot of something special, this novel simply falls back into the pile, struggling to be seen while buried under other similar books. Three stars.

Ready to Were Shift Happens Series Book One edition by Robyn Peterman Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
This does have some sexual content.
I was almost at the end of chapter when I was laughing so hard there were years streaming down my face! The antics this little group does, especially granny and Dwayne are hysterical. I love that the author keeps the cursing to a bare minimum. Essie is such a great character, strong, proud, protective, loving, but can still admit her mistakes.....when she has to.
Once Essie's job with WTF takes her back to the place she grew up, Hung Island, the laughs don't stop. Essie took her best friend, Dwayne the gay vampire home with her and that just added to the dynamics.
This is such a great story. It has a easy to understand plot buried in the hyjinks. It is well written, easy to read, and has great characters. What more can you ask for?
Another hilarious hit for Robyn Peterman! Essie is a WTF agent sent back to her home town. She swore she'd never return. Why? Women she's known all of her life are being abducted and since she has a lot in common with them, her handler felt that she would be the best person for the job. Why doesn't she want to go back? Because of Hank, the alpha of her pack who is also her ex boyfriend. Overall, this novella is a fun read. Peterman was sure to include outrageous characters, a quirky female lead, and a leading male that would make any girl melt. As always, I enjoy her stories, and I hope that you will too.
After getting her heart broken by the man who claims to be her mate, and who claims to love her, Essie does what every girl does, she flees town in the middle of the night and vows to never return.
But now as a trained agent with the Werewolf Treaty Federation, the WTF, she is faced with having to return to her hometown of Hung Island, Georgia. There are missing weres and it is her job to infiltrate a modeling agency to solve the case.
The person she will be working with in town is the sheriff, Hank. On any other case that wouldn’t be a problem but Hank is not only the sheriff and the Alpha but he is also the man who broke her heart and had her running from town.
Her goals are to see her grandmother, get her best friend to come help her to get ready for the job, solve the case, and get the hell out of town. Oh yeah, she wants as little interaction with Hank as possible.
But Hank has other plans. He wants to know why she ran like she did. He wants to know why she left her grandmother like she did. He also wants to know why she left him, knowing how much he loved her.
Nothing ever goes as plans. Between her grandmother (a hysterical ex-stripper), Essie’s gay male best friend Dwayne, trying to avoid Hank, and solving the case in town she is exhausted.
What the reader is left with are pages of hysterical antics, long lost love, secrets, lies, and mystery. I mean how can you not love a book where the agency has the acronym WTF.
Ms. Peterman does a fantastic job keeping the reader engaged with the story while still making them laugh on almost every page.
“Ready to Were” was originally released as a novella in the anthology “Three Southern Beaches” released July 2014. Standing at 168 pages, the novel is as slim and shallow as it’s main character. It seems as much as Essie doesn’t want to return to the backwater southern town from which she sprang, but she’s the only supermodel like WTF agent so therefore the only one suited to go deep cover in a modeling agency from which werewolves are disappearing.
The novel does has a good dose of humor. Peterman does not appear to be an author who will bypass the obvious joke but some of what does land is clever. The novel is light and a very quick read. If you looking for style, you might like “Ready to Were.”
